The short version
We do not collect any data from the Scholia app.We do not ask you to create an account, track your reading, or receive your books, notes, or vocabulary. Your app data is stored on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework and in your own iCloud when iCloud storage or syncing is enabled.
There is no Scholia server holding a copy of your reading data.

This policy describes Scholia specifically. The EstudyLog app and this website are covered by the separate EstudyLog privacy policy.
1. No account and no data collection
Scholia does not require a Scholia or EstudyLog account. We do not ask for your name, email address, password, or payment details to use it. The app is free, with no subscription and no advertising.
We do not collect personal information, reading activity, device identifiers, analytics, or tracking data from Scholia. We do not sell your data, use it for advertising, or build a profile of you.
2. What is saved on your device
Scholia saves the information it needs to let you read and pick up where you left off. This includes the books you import and their extracted text; saved explanations, highlights, notes, quotes, and text corrections; vocabulary and review schedules; and reading progress, goals, and reading-time statistics.
App records are stored locally using SwiftData. Imported files and other app content are kept in storage on your device. Saving this information for your use does not send it to us, and we cannot view your library or reading history.
3. Your iCloud
When iCloud storage, syncing, or backup is enabled for Scholia, app data may also be stored in your own iCloud through Apple's services. This means data can leave your device for your iCloud; it is not sent to a server operated by us.
iCloud uses your Apple Account, not a Scholia account. We do not receive your Apple Account password or have access to your private reading data stored in iCloud. You control iCloud access and storage through your device's settings.

4. Explanations run on your iPhone
Scholia generates word meanings and passage explanations using Apple's on-device language model through the Foundation Models framework. The text used to generate these explanations is processed on your iPhone, not sent to us or to a remote AI service.
Saved explanations are part of your app data and may be included in your iCloud storage or backup as described above. Apple Intelligence must be enabled and its on-device model downloaded before these features can work offline.
5. Your choices and deleting data
Your data stays in your device storage and, where enabled, your iCloud until you remove it. Deleting Scholia from your device removes its local app data. Offloading the app is different: iOS can keep its documents and data so you can reinstall it later.
Deleting the app does not necessarily delete copies in iCloud or existing backups. Manage those separately in your Apple device's iCloud and backup settings. Original PDFs you keep in Files or another location are also separate from Scholia's app data.
We have no Scholia account or server-side reading records to delete, and cannot retrieve or restore your private app data for you.
6. If you contact us
If you choose to email support, we receive your email address and whatever information or attachments you send. This is separate from using Scholia and is not automatic app data collection. We use that correspondence to respond to your request and keep it only as long as needed to handle it or meet applicable legal obligations.
You do not need to send us your books or reading history for general privacy questions. You can also contact us to request deletion of support correspondence, subject to any required legal retention.
7. Apple's services and your settings
Apple independently operates the App Store, iCloud, and device services. Any information Apple processes through those services, including diagnostics you choose to share through Apple's settings, is governed by Apple's policies. Scholia does not add its own analytics or tracking services.
8. Changes to this policy
If Scholia's privacy practices change, we will update this page and its last-updated date. We will provide any notice or obtain any consent required before making a change that requires it.
