Getting started
Is EstudyLog free?
Yes. The core app is free to download with no ads or hidden paywalls. We’re focused on helping as many students as possible track their progress.
Do I need an account?
No signup required. Install the app, add your courses, and you’re ready to log sessions. If you want secure syncing and exports, sign in with your Apple ID or email later - it’s optional.
How do I add classes?
Tap the + button on the Courses tab, give the class a name, pick a color, and optionally add tags (like “lab” or “midterm review”). It takes less than 30 seconds per course.
Using the app day to day
What’s the fastest way to log a study session?
Tap the timer button to track in real time, or choose “Quick Add” to enter the duration when you’re done. You can add notes, productivity ratings, and attachments right from the session card.
How does the streak counter work?
Study for at least 15 minutes in a day and your streak continues. Miss a day and it resets, but you’ll see recovery reminders so you can bounce back quickly.
Can I plan future sessions?
Yes. Schedule upcoming blocks on the calendar view, tag them by course, and receive notifications when it’s go time. Completed sessions automatically convert to logs.
Spacing engine
How does the spacing engine decide what’s next?
We combine topic coverage, session ratings, recency, and outline progress to surface the next high-impact concept. The proprietary weighting stays private, but you’ll see the results in Dashboard prompts and coverage banners.
Can I turn the prompts off?
Yes. Muting reminders in Settings hides spacing nudges, but we’ll still log stats so you can re-enable them later with full history intact.
Does any spacing data leave my account?
No. All calculations run against your Firebase data. We don’t stream study behavior to external training services or ads platforms.
Privacy & data
Where is my data stored?
We store data securely in Google Firebase (us-central). Everything is encrypted in transit and at rest. Check our Privacy Policy for the full breakdown.
Can I export or delete everything?
Absolutely. Head to Settings → Data Controls to export a CSV of your sessions or delete your account entirely. You can also email privacy@estudylog.com for help.
Do you sell study data to advertisers?
No. We don’t sell, rent, or share personal study habits. Your logs are yours, and we’re committed to keeping it that way.
Platform support
What devices does EstudyLog work on?
The app runs on iPhone and iPad with iOS 17.6 or later. A macOS version and web dashboard are in exploration. Android support is on the roadmap for 2025.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Log sessions without Wi‑Fi and we’ll sync everything when you reconnect. You’ll see a status banner if anything needs your attention.
Will it drain my battery?
Timers are optimized to use minimal power. If you’re running multiple background apps or streaming music simultaneously, keep your device charged just in case.
Troubleshooting
I missed a day - can I backfill a session?
Yes. Tap the + button, enter the date, duration, and course, then save. The streak dashboard shows backfilled entries so you can see what’s real-time vs. manual.
My sessions aren’t syncing.
Confirm you’re on the same Apple ID across devices, check your connection, and restart the app. If it still looks off, email a quick log export to support@estudylog.com and we’ll dig in.
The timer stopped unexpectedly. What now?
Don’t panic - EstudyLog saves checkpoints every few seconds. Reopen the app and the session will prompt you to resume or save what it captured.
